This turning point sparked my lifelong passion for organic ingredients and holistic health which I continue to study to this day.

Over the years, I found that organic skincare formulas didn’t bring me the results I needed, and I wanted to know why. Our skin is our largest organ, and what we put on our skin soaks in! After many conversations with natural formulators and experts, I decided to take on the challenge myself. In 2009, with the help of certified organic chemists and COMSOS/Ecocert, I launched a range of skincare that followed both the strictest global standards of safety and the highest levels of clinical performance for healthy, glowing skin."

Rahua products—known for their pure ingredients and unparalleled performance—would not be available today if not for a marvelous confluence of events. Fabian Lliguin, a renowned hairstylist and colorist in New York City was visiting the Amazon rainforest as an environmentalist, educating indigenous people about their land rights and human rights when he realized he was surrounded by women with fantastically long, lustrous hair that cascaded past their waists.  ​ The secret, the women told Fabian, was rahua oil. For centuries the members of the tribe, who live deep within the rainforest, had relied on this oil to nourish their hair and skin. ​ The women gave Fabian one bottle of rahua oil, which he carefully transported back to New York in his suitcase. In his salon on Fifth Avenue, he decided—as an experiment, and without any expectations—to use the oil as a treatment for a client with extremely dry, damaged hair. After 10 minutes, her hair was completely transformed: from brittle and lifeless to healthy, shiny, and bouncy. Fabian was as shocked as his client. Here was solid proof that this ingredient, used for centuries, produced tangible results. Fabian knew he had something very special on his hands and knew too that he needed to handle it with respect. Rahua oil was -and is- produced by the Quechua-Shuar tribe in the same complex, ritualistic, and sustainable fashion it has been for generations. Fabian, who had long worked to support the rainforest’s indigenous people, didn’t want to disrupt this process ​ In 2008 Anna Ayers—Fabian’s wife and business partner—came onboard, joining her expertise as a fashion designer and New York-based trend forecaster to Fabian’s as a hairstylist and colorist to design a purposeful beauty experience for consumers around the world. Together they launched the Rahua brand, drawing on the wisdom of a legendary people to formulate a singular line of innovative, plant-based products to heal, nourish, beautify, and transform. ​ Today, more than 500 families from the Quechua-Shuar, Achuar, and neighboring tribes work with Fabian and Anna to cultivate the rainforest grown ingredients used in Rahua products.

After a journalistic career in which Yvo traveled around the world over 36 times, he had one dream unfulfilled: instead of writing about perfumers he wanted to create his own.

Famous perfumers, including Jean-Claude Ellena of Hermès and François Demachy of Dior and Acqua di Parma, encouraged him to develop his own fragrance. The stimulus of two famous perfumers resulted in Yvo’s first creation of YVRA 1958 l’Essence de l’Essence.

It all started with the beeswax.

Burt Shavitz and Roxanne Quimby created Burt’s Bees in the remote Maine wilderness in the early 1980s after leaving their hectic city lives behind. The two hit it off when Burt pulled over to pick up a hitchhiking Roxanne. Burt had learned to keep bees and had been selling honey roadside. Roxanne apprenticed and found a book of recipes that they used to transform their beeswax into candles and lip balm. Like the forest outside of Burt’s 300-square-foot-turkey-coop-turned-cabin, everything flourished from there.

Today, all Burt's Bees products are made with some of nature’s most effective ingredients, all sourced with respect for people and the land. Each ingredient is chosen for its proven ability to replenish and strengthen a healthy skin barrier. That means only the good stuff, and absolutely none of the bad, for hydrated and happy skin.
